Together in Christ Responding to Coronavirus

The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has hit Fiji, and for the past three weeks, the Ministry of Health has worked overtime in trying to get the situation under control. As of 11/05/2021, there are thirty-six (36) cases under quarantine.  Seven (7) are border cases, twenty-three (23) local transmissions, while six are yet to be determined on how they contracted the Virus. The surge in cases has seen many communities and villagers take proactive measures for the safety of their respective communities. Sasa Village in Ba is one of the few villages to employ these proactive measures.

For the past two weeks, the villagers of Sasa Village Ba unexpectedly had to go to this mode of caring for their village more than ever.  This was their perspective of preventative measures against coronavirus.  Also to provide invaluable service to the common good thus giving the opportunity to all the clans to take turns to guard the village.  The commitment to doing roadblocks did not come easy to them.   They recognize the challenge of knowing that there will be unemployment and yet they felt this new initiative will be beneficial to all.    The engagement of each clan gives them experiences of unity and advance learning to stay connected with their own people.  It was not a bad idea after all.

They ensured that they have to safeguard themselves from the virus by wearing the necessary gear.  Thus the photos portrayed it all and of course keeping the 2 meters social distancing was respected.  This is a temporary exercise for the village and yet the engagement of women and youths is an excellent experience.

To conclude Covid 19 pandemic has revived the sense of working together for the people in the village and to eliminate any contracted virus person from entering their boundary. On the whole, they feel that they are called to rethink their styles of life, their relationships, and their organization of their village.
