Caritas Fiji has continued to serve the communities in Vanua Levu with its TC Yasa relief work. All this has been made possible through the kind donations from individuals, groups and organisations.
Numerous families with school children were humbly served and empowered. The road conditions did not deter the Caritas team from reaching their destinations. In some cases, Seqaqa, the team had to detour–and it seemed more challenging. ’The roads were badly damaged but we were determined to get around to places we were destined for,’ said Fr. Joseva Tuimavule cm. Clothes, bed linens, sanitary pads were distributed by the priests and nuns to flood victims of Labasa. The recipients were delighted.
Napuka/Cakadrove in Vaturova district (Nakarabo and Navetau Village) awaited the Caritas team to distribute school stationery items to the children in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools. ‘The trip was a great success as it brought smiles to the children and that was all we needed to see. They had written to us and we packed according to the child’s request. It was a demanding exercise but we had seminarians who did all the shopping and packing. Later on the ground, there was a child who took his sandals and gave it a long big kiss….it was his last year in primary school and this was his first pair of sandal-he ever owned,’ said Fr. Joseva Tuimavule sm.
The good stories are endless! Caritas is organising another trip to other affected areas including Rabi and Lakeba communities.
This week the Labasa and Vaturova families will get their shopping vouchers for their much needed groceries. This assistance has been sent by Caritas to help on the food rations since all farms/plantation have been destroyed.
