The visitation to the members of the Catholic Women’s League of St.Michael Parish {Kadavu} was part of the working plan of the Central Eastern Executive Committee for 2020. The planned visit was schedule for the last week of March but COVID-19 entry into the country followed by all the necessary restrictions to contain virus did not allow us to follow through with our planned visit.
TC Harold arrived soon after and its wrath was left evident in two of the Central Eastern Region areas, Kadavu and Lau. This inspired the Central Eastern Region Executives to organize TC Harold Appeal for the women of the St.Michael Parish, Kadavu.
The appeal was to the CWL members of the Central Eastern Region. After consultation with.Fr. Joe Tuimavule CM, the superior of the Vincentian Fathers in Fiji (serving St. Michael’s Parish, Kadavu) and one of the first responders to the appeal. He suggested that the CWL concentrate on the kitchen and dining utensils, bedroom linen and curtains. Though the generosity of the CWL members and friends we were able to receive and distribute the above items plus warm clothing and school bags for the children. The six communities visited in KAdavu were Nasialia, Namatiu, Narikoso, Naidiri, Nauciwai and Vabea/ Waisomo, Nabouwalu and Naqara Village. Ono was not visited but appeal items were sent across.
The visitation programme to each of the communities was:
Despite the rough open sea boat rides to the six communities within three days in Kadavu, the visit was indeed a great success. We met the women where they are, we had a firsthand experience of their daily problems, struggles, joys and difficulties on the family level as well as the CWL network.
A big vinavinaka levu to Fr. Joseva Tuimavule for his continuous support in making this visitation a success and to those that contributed to the appeal.
