Strategic and Governance Focus

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) to ensure the effective implementation of its new Pastoral Plan and assist the Archbishop with overall leadership of the Archdiocese.

Following an internal review, the Archdiocese seeks a COO who will work in close collaboration with the Archbishop and manage the operations of various portfolios to ensure its ongoing development and administration. The portfolio includes stakeholder engagement, and assisting with the overall management and leadership of governance, strategy, financial management, property and people. In particular, the COO will:

  • Assist the Archbishop in overseeing all administrative and business operations including representation in all business, administrative and commercial matters.
  • Implement the pastoral and operational plans to support the mission and vision of the Archdiocese and ensure operational services are delivered in accordance with civil and canon law.
  • Oversee the financial management process including implementation of effective financial control systems and ensure budgeting and financial reporting is prepared in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.
  • Provide support to the Property Department and parishes in their responsibility for developing and managing church properties.
  • Provide clear leadership to all staff and support the Archbishop in providing an effective system for recruitment, retention, management, training and development of Curial staff.
  • Effectively manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships. Qualifications and experience
  •  Relevant professional qualification in finance, management or related discipline.
  • Understanding of gospel values and the principles of Catholic social teaching.
  • Proven and evidenced experience of working at a senior level in a financial management or similar role. Knowledge of charity accounting regulations would be an advantage.
  • Strategic and analytical ability with experience in strategy development at board level and managing organisational change.
  • Strong leadership skills with ethical and sound judgement, and the ability to motivate others to high performance.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and market rates.
