His Grace, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong arriving at Rotuma Airport

This morning, Rotuma Airport was brought to a halt as the Head of the Catholic Church, the Most Reverend, His Grace, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong arrived and was greeted with heartfelt cultural traditions and a warm island welcome.

The Ki ceremony, is meaningful gesture of welcome reserved for those of high honor, was performed by the Hapmafau upon Archbishop Peter Loy Chong’s arrival. This gesture displayed respect, witnessed by members of the public, the faith community, and enthusiastic students from nearby schools, showing reverence.

The festivities are set to unfold over the next few days will begin with a 2-day retreat in Sumi guided by His Grace. With this retreat, the faithful will gather and engage in moments of reflection and spiritual conversations to reflect on the centennial milestone for Our Lady of Victories Church in Sumi.

Saturday will mark the pinnacle of the celebrations with an Ecumenical Service and the grand finale of the Centennial festivities. These events highlight a century of faith and resilience but also highlight Rotuma’s role as a spiritual and cultural beacon in the Pacific.
