The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva inaugurated its Parish Leadership Training (PLT) this week. This event is held at The Lagoon Resort, Pacific Harbour, over the next three days.
The training has brought together all thirty-six parish priests from across Fiji, alongside invited parishioners who hold leadership and governance roles within their respective parishes. In total, close to 160 participants are attending this significant formation gathering.
Facilitating the training are His Grace, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong and the Pastoral Director of the Archdiocese of Suva. The training draws on learnings, insights and best practices gained from the Amazing Parish Summit held in Houston, Texas, USA, earlier this year.
At the heart of the training are six critical questions inspired by Patrick Lencioni’s book :
1. Why do we exist?
2. How do we behave?
3. What do we do?
4. How will we succeed?
5. What is most important right now?
6. Who must do what?
Through reflection, discussion and strategic planning, each parish will develop and document its own Parish Playbook, aligned with the broader Archdiocese Playbook. These playbooks will serve as practical guides to strengthen parish mission, leadership, collaboration and accountability.
In addition to the training sessions, participants will engage in daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, personal reflection, group discussions and parish presentations, ensuring a holistic approach that integrates faith formation with leadership development.
As the training unfolds over the coming days, we pray for God’s guidance and Mother Mary’s intercession for all participants and attendees.
May this gathering be a fruitful, transformative and successful experience that strengthens parish communities and advances the mission of the Church throughout Fiji.
